ROAS Calculator: Ad Revenue Efficiency and a Break-Even Model
Start with your numbers.
The initial values are an example. Use consistent revenue and spend periods, one currency and an attribution basis you can explain. Your entries are calculated locally in the browser and are not submitted or saved by this calculator.

What to enter
Attributed ad revenue: Revenue assigned to the advertising activity under your chosen reporting method. Consider net revenue after refunds, discounts and cancellations where appropriate.
Ad spend: The media cost for that activity and period. This is narrower than the total marketing investment.
Contribution margin before ads: The share of revenue remaining after the relevant variable costs, before advertising. The business decides which costs belong in that assumption.
The currency selection only changes formatting. It does not convert values between currencies.
ROAS and break-even formulas
ROAS ratio = attributed ad revenue ÷ ad spend.
ROAS percentage = ROAS ratio × 100.
Contribution after ads = revenue × contribution margin − ad spend.
Ad-only break-even ROAS = 1 ÷ contribution margin.
With margin expressed as a decimal, a 40% margin gives an ad-only break-even ROAS of 2.5×. At zero margin, the model has no finite break-even ratio. Ad spend must be positive to define ROAS.
Worked example
With $40,000 in attributed revenue and $10,000 in advertising spend, ROAS is 4×, or 400%. That means four units of revenue per unit spent on ads; it does not mean a 400% profit.
At 40% contribution margin, the revenue contributes $16,000 before advertising. Deducting the $10,000 ad spend leaves $6,000 before other omitted costs. The modeled break-even point is 2.5×.
Agency fees, creative, fixed overhead and costs not included in the margin assumption still need consideration. Use the marketing ROI calculator for a wider investment view.
Why platform ROAS can mislead
An advertising platform uses its own attribution rules and window. It may credit orders from existing customers or overlap with another channel's claim. A reported ratio does not by itself establish incremental revenue.
Compare platform reports with appropriate store or CRM data. Keep acquisition and remarketing roles visible, and evaluate customer value and margin before treating a higher ratio as proof that the whole program is better.
Our ecommerce marketing approach connects advertising to new-customer growth, returns and repeat purchasing. Google Ads and Meta Ads are evaluated within that wider business context.
ROAS calculator questions
Is 4× ROAS good?
It depends on margin, omitted costs, attribution and the business objective. A low-margin business may need a higher ratio than a high-margin one to cover ads.
Why is 1× not necessarily break-even?
At 1×, revenue equals advertising spend before paying for the product or service. Only the margin left after relevant variable costs is available to cover advertising.
Does the calculator include lifetime value?
No. It uses the revenue you enter. If you use a longer customer-revenue period, align the cohort and costs and make the change explicit.
